Test Tool & Libraries

DLMS UA develops a test tool and libraries to support development and facilitate the DLMS UA Qualification Process, enabling companies to obtain the DLMS UA Product Qualification Certificate for compliance and compatibility.

These certifications guarantee that products are fully compliant with the internationally recognized DLMS UA specifications, or with any other international standardization bodies having adopted them such as IEC with the IEC62056 Suite or ANSI with their C12 Suite of Standards.

Compliance Test Tools

Certification for compliance can be achieved either through self-certification, using the DLMS Test Tool, or by engaging DLMS UA Accredited Test Laboratories to conduct the tests.

Compatibility Test Tools

GCP test libraries are available for testing and development purposes.

Compatibility certification can only be achieved by submitting a product to a DLMS UA Accredited Test Laboratory.

Test tool application & communication layer

The DLMS Test Tool is a next-generation combined platform, designed to accelerate development time and increase confidence levels when submitting a device for certification. It supports completion of the DLMS UA Qualification Program by generating a test report, which can be submitted to the DLMS Qualification portal.

DLMS Test Tool

The DLMS Test Tool was designed to streamline the DLMS UA Qualification process, making it more efficient and user-friendly. It enables both members and accredited test laboratories to test devices and generate reports.

Technical details

The DLMS Test Tool (DLMS TT) is software that implements Abstract Test Cases (ATSs) as Executable Test Suites (ETSs). It runs on a PC with 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, or Windows 11. The DLMS TT acts as a DLMS/COSEM test client, while the Implementation Under Test (IUT) serves as a DLMS/COSEM server. The DLMS TT facilitates the selection, parametrization, and execution of the ETSs using information from the Conformance Test Information (CTI) file and data obtained from the IUT. The DLMS TT supports the DLMS/COSEM 3-layer, connection-oriented HDLC and TCP/IP communication profiles, as well as connectionless protocols such as UDP and CoAP (Constrained Application Protocol).

The licence for standard package consists of a licences, that once activate in server mode, will let run up to 3 instances of the tools.

Golden Devices & Golden Environment

All devices must be tested in their native communication technology when applying for DLMS UA Product Qualification Certificate for compliance or compatibility. For the most relevant communication technologies, DLMS UA imposes the use of accredited communication devices for testing purposes.

Licensing Options DLMS test tool

There are three ways to access the DLMS test tool.

Member License
This license is available exclusively to Members.
It encompasses a one-time initial purchase and an optional updates & upgrades annual license.
The initial DLMS Test Tool license grants unlimited access to the specific version of the tool available at the time of purchase. (Please note that this option does not include upgrades or updates.)
The optional updates & upgrades annual license provides access to all ongoing updates and upgrades throughout the licensing period and free email support. Members planning to certify multiple products or product versions are encouraged to opt for this license.
Sub-License
via a Member in Good Standing
Organizations may access the test tool by obtaining a sub-license from a DLMS UA Member in Good Standing with a valid test tool license.
The tool is available through a one-time, 30-day sub-license, with the fee payable by the licensee to the DLMS UA Test Tool distributor.
This option is ideal for Members planning to certify only a very limited number of products.
Please note that DLMS UA does not facilitate introductions between members.
Certification
via an Accredited Test Laboratory
Instead of purchasing the DLMS Test Tool, members can choose to work with an DLMS UA Accredited Test Laboratory, which manages the entire testing and certification process.
A list of accredited test labs is available here.
