DLMS UA Releases Gas Smart Meter Generic Companion Profile (GCP)

DLMS UA is pleased to announce the release of the Gas Smart Meter (GSM) Generic Companion Profile (GCP), the newest addition to the growing suite of DLMS Generic Companion Profiles.

The GSM GCP is the first edition of the DLMS UA Generic Companion Profile for gas smart meters, complementing our published Generic Companion Profiles for electricity and water smart meters.

Supporting Gas Smart Meter Interoperability

The GSM GCP provides a common framework for secure, reliable and interoperable data exchange between gas smart meters and head-end systems, based on DLMS/COSEM.

It brings together the technical, functional and security requirements needed to support interoperability across multi-vendor environments and provides a foundation for compatibility certification.

The first edition covers nine key use cases, including basic services, clock synchronisation, malfunction and fraud detection, dynamic tariffs, load profiling, supply management, installation and commissioning, security management and meter configuration. It also supports operational functions such as remote supply management and firmware updates, with an efficient data model optimized for battery-powered devices.

Extending DLMS/COSEM Interoperability to Gas

The release of the GSM GCP demonstrates DLMS UA’s commitment to establishing DLMS/CODEM as a global language for interoperability across all utilities. With the addition of gas, DLMS Generic Companion Profiles now provide a consistent framework supporting interoperability across electricity, water and gas smart metering applications.

For utilities, meter manufacturers and technology providers, the GSM GCP provides a foundation for developing secure, interoperable and multi-vendor gas smart metering solutions.
