Manufacturer specific objects, are they possible?

DLMS/COSEM provides a rich set of standard objects to support a wide functionality of metering equipment. However, in order to support innovation, manufacturer specific objects can be defined and used. These will be identified by manufacturer specific OBIS codes. An OBIS code is manufacturer specific, if any of the value groups B to D has a value between 128 and 254.

In order to maintain interoperability, manufacturer specific objects should not be used for a purpose for which a standardised object is defined. In order to allow interpretation of manufacturer specific objects by the data collection system, extra information is needed.

It is to be noted that manufacturer specific objects shall be still instances of standard interface classes and the type of the attributes is tested by the CTT. On the other hand, manufacturer specific attributes and methods are allowed.
