The DLMS User Association is proud to celebrate its 10th birthday.
Travel with us to see how during these ten years DLMS/COSEM became a strongly established international standard for meter data exchange. Number of members approaching a 100, seven international standards, and 50 Certified implementations are strong evidences of market acceptance worldwide.
1997 - the Association is founded on 31st March 2007 and the first General Meeting is held on 15th October. Technical work starts based on DLMS - IEC 61334-4-41 - to develop the COSEM object model and a communication profile for PSTN.
'1998 - the first Blue Book and Green Book is released and the website is opened. With the first implementations, DLMS/COSEM starts to become a reality.
''1999 - the OBIS identification system is published as the Orange Book and work on conformance testing starts. Communicating meters become an enabling technology for electricity market liberalisation.
'''2000 - the revised Books are introduced to IEC and CEN for International standardization. The website and the Statuses are adapted to growing membership.
''''2001 – spread of market liberalisation gives a new impetus to meter data exchange. The Conformance testing plans are published in the Yellow Book.
'''''2002: DLMS is present worldwide. IEC 62056 standards are published. First training courses and seminars. The Conformance Test Tool (CTT) is released and first Certificates are granted. Work on COSEM as an internet application starts. A busy fifth birthday!
''''''2003: Internet communication profile is submitted for International standardisation. Metering International starts a Chinese edition, with a DLMS feature inside. Several meter vendors and system providers offer DLMS/COSEM based solutions. EN 13757-1 for utility metering published.
'''''''2004: New books are released. Liaison with standardisation and associated members is pushed further. A seminar is given in India for 150 experts.
''''''''2005: First Asian implementations. Big growth in Membership from Asia. New Books contain the Internet communication profile.
'''''''''2006: DLMS is present in an Asian event for the first time. DLMS/COSEM for metering gas metering starts. Smart metering initiatives create the market for communicating residential meters. Back to roots: DLMS/COSEM over PLC becomes interesting. Second edition of IEC 62056 series, of standards published.
''''''''''2007: Early January – 91 members in the DLMS User Association, additional 5 are pending. Number of Certificates reaches 50. Second version of CTT is released.
