List of standard OBIS codes and maintenance process

Documents listing standard COSEM objects

These documents contain the list of standard COSEM objects.

Each COSEM object is identified by its logical name given by OBIS, class identifier and version. The interface class definitions also specify the data types to be used for each attribute. In some cases, a choice between data types is allowed.

The document DLMS UA 1001-6 “COSEM conformance testing – List of standardised OBIS codes” lists valid combinations of logical names / OBIS codes and interface class(es).

The documents DLMS UA 1001-7 “COSEM conformance testing – Object definition tables” lists valid combinations of logical names / OBIS codes and interface class(es), as well as the data types allowed where a choice of data types for value attributes is allowed.

The documents are regularly maintained to accommodate new COSEM object definitions. Newer versions are upper compatible with older ones therefore the older versions remain valid.

These documents are used by the DLMS/COSEM Conformance Test Tool to test the COSEM objects implemented in meters. For this purpose, the documents are translated to .dat files.

From DLMS UA 1001-6, .dat files are generated for use with CTT V1.x.

From DLMS UA 1001-7, .dat files are generated for use with CTT V1.x and with CTT V2.

The .dat files can be downloaded by licensed users of the CTT from the following link: http://www.eurodcs.com/metering/index.htm.

Maintenance process

To cover new applications, new OBIS codes can be requested by any user of the DLMS/COSEM specification. The process is the following:

1. Requests shall be sent by email to the DLMS UA: dlms@dlms.com. The request shall include:

  • The name and the organisation of the person requesting the new code;

  • A concise description of the intended application and

  • The proposed codes. If there are no codes proposed, the DLMS UA will allocate them.

2. Requests are circulated to the DLMS UA Maintenance Working Group generally for two weeks comments and approval.

3. When approved, the request is accepted and the new codes are added to the list of OBIS codes. The requestor is notified.

4. If necessary, the maintenance of the Blue Book and the IEC standards is initiated.
